Our Heritage and Identity

At St. Ursula Girls’ High School and Junior College, we are more than an institution—we are a legacy. Founded in 1857 by the visionary Margaret Cooper, and named in honour of St. Ursula, the patroness of young women and educators, our school stands as a sanctuary of learning and empowerment. For over 165 years, we have carried forward the sacred mission of educating girls with integrity, compassion, and courage. Rooted in the Ursuline tradition, our educational philosophy embraces academic excellence, spiritual grounding, and service to humanity. Our motto, “Arise, Shine,” drawn from Isaiah 60:1, is more than a phrase—it is a divine summons. “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” It calls every Ursulite to rise beyond complacency, to shine with the light of knowledge, character, and faith.

To Our Students

Dear girls, within you lies the extraordinary power to shape the future. Knowledge will not merely inform you—it will transform you. Embrace your studies with joy and resilience. Cherish the challenges, for in them lies your growth. The great Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” You are the torchbearers of tomorrow. Let your minds be hungry for truth, and your hearts anchored in grace. Let the words of Proverbs 18:15 echo within you: “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” Every lesson you learn, every book you read, every act of kindness you perform, adds to the architecture of your inner strength. Shine boldly. Lead bravely.

To Our Teachers

Dear educators, you are the sculptors of destiny, the unseen hands that mold character and kindle the flame of wisdom. Your role is sacred. As Psalm 119:105 declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path,” so too is your instruction a light that banishes the shadows of ignorance. In every classroom, you do more than teach—you inspire, you guide, you plant the seeds of lifelong curiosity. In the tradition of our school’s namesake, St. Ursula, who courageously led and uplifted young women, may your efforts continue to awaken potential, stir compassion, and cultivate excellence. Your vocation is not only to educate minds but to uplift souls.

To Our Parents

Dear parents, your partnership is the cornerstone of our shared mission. You are the first teachers, the lifelong cheerleaders, and the moral compass for your children. In your homes, you sow the values that we nurture in school—discipline, empathy, faith, and perseverance. Together, we are shaping not just successful students, but upright citizens of the world. As Mahatma Gandhi wisely said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Thank you for entrusting your daughters to our care and for walking alongside us in this sacred journey.

Our Collective Strength

St. Ursula’s continues to stand tall as a beacon of excellence in Nagpur, widely regarded for its academic rigor and moral foundation. We celebrate the achievements of our students—whether in securing top scores in board exams or triumphing on the sports field, like our Under-14 football team clinching the district championship. We take pride in our inclusive ethos, our environmental projects, and our vibrant cultural events. From the Biennial Sports Meet to initiatives in heritage preservation and social service, every Ursulaite learns that knowledge must be paired with responsibility. These accomplishments are not accidental; they are the fruits of a vision—deeply rooted in Ursuline values—of nurturing the mind, the heart, and the will. Through knowledge, we empower; through service, we uplift.

To Our School Community

To our administrative staff, alumni, benefactors, and friends—you are the invisible threads that strengthen the fabric of our school. Your dedication, generosity, and belief in our mission allow us to continue the legacy entrusted to us since 1857. Let us recall the words of Socrates: “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” This humility keeps us learning, growing, and building together. May we continue to cultivate a community of excellence where every girl who enters our gates learns not only how to make a living—but how to make a life of meaning. Looking Ahead with Purpose In the months to come, let us walk together—students, teachers, parents, and partners—undaunted by obstacles, undistracted by noise, and unwavering in our commitment to the light of knowledge. Let us affirm, through word and deed, that “knowledge empowers you.” It empowers us to rise above fear, to dispel ignorance, to ignite innovation, and to serve humanity with conviction. May this academic year be an era of enlightenment, unity, and triumphant purpose. As Isaiah reminds us again: “Arise, shine!” Yes, Ursulaites—arise in confidence, shine with knowledge, and let the brilliance of your light illuminate not only your future but the lives of those around you.
